PHP Designated to Provide IPA Support for EHR Adoption and “Meaningful Use”
PHP will serve as a partner in the Colorado Regional Extension Center (CO-REC), and will provide support directly to PPP practices to assist you with the selection, implementation, and use of EHRs, and to assist you with achieving of “Meaningful Use” as defined by the federal government.
It is PHP’s goal to collaborate with PPP to build a sustainable Accountable Care Organization (ACO) to improve quality, control costs, and create a sustainable revenue stream for primary care doctors. Implementation and use of Health Information Technology (HIT) is a vital part of achieving these goals.
In February 2009, President Obama signed into law a $787 billion economic stimulus package, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or ARRA. Included in ARRA legislation is the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which provides financial and technical support to physicians for the implementation and “Meaningful Use” of electronic health records (EHRs).
PHP has been partnering with the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) in order to support PPP’s HIT strategy, and coordinate technical support delivered to practices. CORHIO was recently awarded $9.175 million to facilitate a statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), and $12.475 million to serve as the lead of the CO-REC. CO-REC, which includes CORHIO and other key organizations across the state, has been designated to provide technical assistance to healthcare providers in order to support achievement of federal “Meaningful Use” standards, and help providers qualify for financial incentives offered under HITECH.
Please contact your Network Manager or call the General Provider Relations line at 303.256.1703 if you have questions. Additional information on CO-REC services and “Meaningful Use” requirements will follow as it becomes available.
